Bhubaneswar: The State Election Commission (SEC) has revised the expenditure limit for candidates contesting for councillors/corporator and chairperson/mayor in the forthcoming urban local body (ULB) polls in Odisha.
The process of holding the ULB polls has started with the SEC releasing the delimitation and reservation lists. It has also set a timeline for preparations of the final electoral roll and it is likely to be out by this month-end.
An all-party meeting has also been convened on February 10 to decide the date and various modalities for conducting the urban elections with adherence to COVID-19 guidelines.
Notably, the elections to the ULBs have not been conducted since 2018 despite the tenures having expired three years ago.
Odisha is likely to conduct the elections in April or May after the five-phase rural polls from February 16.
The three-tier panchayat elections in Odisha will be held from February 16 to 24. Polling will take place on February 16, 18, 20, 22 and 24 from 7 am to 1 pm. Results will be declared on February 26, 27 and 28. Counting will be done at the block level, not booths.
