Chennai: Life in Tamil Nadu’s capital city remained in a limbo even on Wednesday in the aftermath of Cyclone Michaung.
Residents continued to struggle with waterlogging and power disruptions in several parts of the city and neighbouring areas.
The Tamil Nadu government said that power supply was not restored in some areas as a “preventive measure” as cables are under water.
Thousands of people are in relief camps, not being in a position to return to their damaged or inundated homes.
Even on Wednesday, people were seen leaving their homes with children to safer areas, wading through stagnant water.
Indian Air Force distributed food packets through helicopters in the flooded areas.

Cyclone Michaung, which made landfall in south coastal Andhra Pradesh, brought heavy rain from two days prior in Chennai and other parts of coastal Tamil Nadu and Andhra.
Rajaram, a shop owner in Chennai’s Kolathur, told India Today that water had entered more than 30 shops. “For the last two days, there is no power supply. More than 1,000 fish imported from China have died. We have lost around Rs 3-5 lakh because of this,” he said.
According to Parvathi, the administration has been providing basic necessities in the relief camp where she and her family have taken refuge.
“We were facing floods in our area. The government has arranged a relief camp where we get proper food, water and basic needs. We are getting supplies in this camp throughout the day,” she said.
Relief activities are ongoing in full throttle with people in several affected areas being rescued by inflatable boats.
Senior officials of Greater Chennai Corporation are overseeing rescue and relief activities.
