Ganjam: The councillor of ward no 6 at Chhatrapur in Ganjam district was allgedely brutally murdered by unidentified miscreants on Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Laxmidutta Pradhan.
According to reports, 10 to 12 assailants barged into the councillor’s residence at LIC colony in Chhatrapur and attacked him with swords. Pradhan’s brother, who tried to rescue him, was severely injured in the attack.
Following the incident, Laxmidutta was rushed to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur where he succumbed to his injuries.
Though the exact reason behind the attack is yet to be known, local residents attributed it to possible past rivalry. Police have started investigating the matter.
