Raipur: Chhattisgarh on Friday became India’s first state to procure gaumutra (cow urine).
Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel launched the procurement initiative on the occasion of Hareli Tihaar, from his residence.
Baghel also became the first seller of cow urine, as he sold 5 litres of gaumutra for Rs 20 to Nidhi Self-Help Group of Chandkhuri. The amount was deposited in the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund on Baghel’s request.
The initiative will see the state procuring gaumutra at Rs 4 per litre. It follows another initiative by the Baghel government — to buy cow dung from farmers and villagers.
Under the earlier initiative, the state procured cow dung worth more than Rs 300 crore in last 2 years from cow dung vendors, Gauthan committees and women’s groups through Godhan Nyay Yojana.
On Friday, the CM worshipped agricultural equipment and tools, besides feeding fodder to a cow and worshipped her.
During today’s event, the state government distributed incentives amounting to Rs 17 crore among 7,442 women self-help groups to produce organic fertilizers.
