Jharsuguda: A woman, who reportedly got swept away in Mahanadi river from Chhattisgarh, was rescued by locals in Odisha’s Jharsuguda district.
Sources said the woman, identified as Sarojini Ranveer from Purat village in Chhattisgarh, was rescued from Palsada Ghat under Lakhanpur block of Jharsuguda district.
According to locals, some people spotted the woman while she was being carried away by the river current. Local residents and fishermen swung into action immediately and jumped into the river to rescue her.
After the woman was rescued successfully, it was found that her feet were tied with a chain, which restricted her movement. She was offered food by the locals and her health condition is stated to be stable at present.
The circumstances in which the woman came floating in the river is yet to be ascertained.
After being informed about the incident by local residents, police have initiated a probe. Further details are awaited.
