Malkangiri: A child died and around 25 others were taken ill after reportedly eating at a wedding feast at Nuaguda village under Mathili block of Odisha’s Malkangiri district.
Most of the affected as well as the deceased were reported to be from one family.
As per preliminary information, people from neighbouring areas were invited to a marriage feast in Nuaguda village on Wednesday evening. After eating food at the marriage feast, around 25 children from Bandhaguda village fell ill with symptoms of diarrhea.
The ailing children were rushed to the community health centre (CHC) at Mathili. Four of them were later shifted to the district headquarters hospital (DHH) in Malkangiri as their condition deteriorated.
One of the four children died while undergoing treatment at Malkangiri hospital. Others are still admitted to the hospital and are being treated, sources said.
Dr Devi Prasad Nath of Malkangiri DHH said the family members of the children informed that they had eaten something bad.
A medical team has reached the village and started an investigation into the incident. The team has collected samples of the food served at the feast for testing.
