Baripada: In second case of drowning in the same area of a canal of Subarnarekha river, a child died in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district on Monday.
According to sources, the child has been identified as Thakra, 6-year-old son of Dakhin Murmu of Maharajapur on the outskirts of Baripada town in the district.
Thakra had gone to take bath alone to the river canal flowing close to their house without informing his parents in the afternoon. As he did not return home for a long time, his family members went in search for him.
After looking for him in Maharajapur, they did not trace Thakra and went to the canal. Finally, they found Thakra floating in the canal water and brought it to the banks. By the time, he was dead.
On being informed by the locals about the incident, a team from Bhanjapur police station went to the spot and sent the body for post-mortem. The police have registered a case of unnatural death.
It may be noted that a Plus II student had died of drowning in the same area of the canal while immersing the idol of Lord Ganesh.
