‘Child Marriage’ Becomes Thread Ceremony In Odisha On Arrival Of Childline Officials, Police

Cuttack: A venue for alleged child marriage was turned into that of a thread ceremony just before Childline officials and police arrived at Rajnagar village of Athagarh block in Cuttack district on Friday.

The would-be bride was reportedly appearing for Matric examination this year and had told the school administrations and exam squad about her scheduled wedding.

When Childline Councilor Julina Behera along with Athagarh SDPO and other officials reached the venue, they found that a thread ceremony was underway and the girl was nowhere to be seen.

“Her parents told us that she is away at a friend’s place. They have been asked produce the girl in the CWC office once her examinations are over,” said Behera.
