Jajpur: Child marriages continue in India despite laws and awareness campaigns. One such marriage took place in Nagada under Sukinda block here on May 30.
Although the marriage could not be prevented due to late information, the Childline members reached the village as soon as they got to know about it. With the help of the Kaliapani police, Childline members rescued both the minor boy and the girl.
According to sources, a 13-year-old girl from Keonjhar district got married to a 14-year-old boy from the Tala Nagada area on May 30.
After rescuing both the children, Childline members produced them before the district Child Welfare Committee. Subsequently, the boy was sent to a Bal Ashram and the girl was sent to One Stop Centre.
“The rescued children will be handed over to their family members once the investigation is over. Action will also be taken against their parents,” said Jajpur Childline Coordinator Sandhyarani Sahu.
