Bhubaneswar: While dry weather in Odisha till November 17 is likely to favour a drop in the minimum temperature, a low pressure is likely to form over the southwest Bay of Bengal off the Sri Lanka coast next week.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday in its latest extended range forecast for two weeks, from November 4 to 17, hinted at a drop in minimum temperature across the state. “Dry weather and a favourable wind condition are likely to support a seasonal drop in minimum temperature now,” said the regional head of IMD, Bhubaneswar, H R Biswas.
While the minimum temperature is very likely to be near normal at most places till November 10, the state will see “seasonal gradual decrease” in the second week of November till the 17th.
The North Indian Ocean Extended Range Outlook for Cyclogenesis also forecast the formation of a low-pressure over southwest Bay of Bengal off the Sri Lanka coast towards the end of week 1 or at the beginning of week 2. “The system is likely to move west-northwestward towards Tamil Nadu coast and a slight intensification to become a depression during the first half of week 2,” it added.
international forecasting manager, Accuweather, Jason Nicholls had on Thursday tweeted about the likely formation of a tropical low pressure in the southern Bay of Bengal next week.
“Scattered rains will continue in southern #India into next week while a western disturbance can bring rain/snow to N #Pakistan & far NW India Friday into early next week. Watch for a tropical low to develop in the southern Bay of Bengal next week,” he wrote.
