Pune: Controversy continues to be the middle name of Puja Khedkar.
The former IAS probationer, who was sacked by the Union government last year on charges of cheating and misusing OBC and disability quota benefits, was at the receiving end of a chilling crime at her family bungalow in Pune’s Baner Road.
Khedkar contacted Pune Police around midnight on Saturday, claiming that a recently-hired domestic worker had sedated her and her parents before escaping with valuables, PTI reported.
As per the verbal complaint, Khedkar and her parents were left unconscious and tied up by the burglars.
Police said Khedkar told them that the domestic help, a Nepalese individual, mixed sedatives into food or drinks that were consumed by the Khedkars. It rendered Khedkar and her parents, Dilip and Manorama, unconscious.
Once the trio lost consciousness, the accused tied them up and fled with mobile phones and other valuables from their home. Khedkar claimed she later regained consciousness, managed to free herself and used another phone to alert the police.
No formal written complaint has been submitted yet. Neither has details of the items allegedly stolen been formally listed.
However, Pune Police have taken cognizance of the verbal complaint and initiated a preliminary inquiry to verify Khedkar’s claims.
Because of their history of run-ins with the law, the scary episode has revived scrutiny of the Khedkar family.
Last year, a police case was registered against Dilip and Manorama Khedkar over the alleged abduction of a truck driver after a road rage incident in Navi Mumbai.
