China Now Has World’s Largest Navy, Says US Defence Department

Washington: The US Department of Defence (DoD) on Thursday stated that China currently has the world’s largest navy with approximately 350 ships and submarines.

The US Navy, in comparison, has 293 ships.

The DoD observed that China is rapidly increasing its ship-building capacity and its navy is mostly composed of modern multi-role platforms featuring advanced anti-ship, anti-air and anti-submarine weapons and sensors. China is also aiming to double its number of nuclear warheads.

China is expanding its overseas naval bases to Gwadar in Pakistan and Djibouti in Africa. It is also trying to set up logistical bases at Sri Lanka and Myanmar.

Beijing has rejected the report, calling it biased.
