New Delhi: After over 2 years, China will permit ‘some stranded Indian students’ to return, reported PTI citing the Chinese foreign ministry on Friday.
“China attaches high importance to Indian students’ concerns about returning to China for studies. We have shared with the Indian sides the procedures and experience of other countries’ students returning to China,” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian told a media briefing.
Over 23,000 Indian students, mostly studying medicine in Chinese colleges, were stuck in India following a strict visa ban in China owing to the repeated waves of coronavirus.
China has stopped issuing visas for Indians since 2020 and currently, there are no flights between the two countries.
However, the Chinese side expressed willingness to consider facilitating the return of Indian students following a meeting between External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar and Foreign Minister of China, Wang Yi.
The Embassy of India in China informed that Indian students should provide information by filling up the form by May 8, news agency ANI reported.
