Beijing: One of the leading vaccines in the world made by China’s Sinopharm has reportedly been administered to lakhs of people.
The vaccine comes in two-doses and it is reported that none of the recipients developed an adverse reaction or infection.
The vaccine has been administered under an emergency-use programme and is being tested on frontline workers. Pregnant and breast-feeding women are not being given the vaccine.
The state-run company has invested over 2 billion USD for the vaccine and is currently carrying Phase 3 testing in the Middle-East and South Africa, apart from China. The vaccine is based on an inactive coronavirus. The Oxford vaccine, which recently hit a roadblock after a volunteer develops an unexplained illness, is based on Chimpanzee adenovirus.
Sinopharm’s vaccine is expected to hit the market by the end of the year if everything goes right.
