Cuttack: Ahead of the Makar Sankranti festival scheduled on Thursday, the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) has banned use of Chinese Manja thread used in kite flying.
In a notification the CMC said as there have been several instances of injuries caused by the Chinese Manja (finely crushed glass particles applied on the nylon thread with gum) during kite flying competition in the city, a decision has been taken for its complete ban this year.
Apart from this, plastic thread and threads coated with glass particles will be banned.
To strictly enforce the ban order, CMC has formed three special teams that will inspect the kite shops and take action, if any shopkeeper is found selling the banned items.
