New Delhi: OnePlus phone’s booming demand has once again proved that ‘BoycottChineseProducts’ is only a trending hashtag.
The China-based smartphone maker witnessed millions of phones getting sold in the Indian market in minutes after its launch on Thursday. The OnePlus 8 Pro, whose price is much lesser than Apple Inc.’s latest iPhones, wasn’t available on Amazon.com Inc’s local website soon after it was launched.
#BoycottChineseProducts has been trending on Twitter in India for a couple of days following the death of 20 Indian soldiers in a violent face-off with the Chinese troops on the Himalayan border.
However, the present trend belies these sentiments and proves India’s continuing dependence on feature-rich and non-expensive Chinese products.
For the record, India depends on China for the majority of its imports. The year-end purchases in March were more than $60 billion thus giving Beijing the trade surplus edge of about $50 billion with New Delhi.
