Cuttack: Odisha Crime Branch on Tuesday took Bikramjit Bhoumik, the Odisha head of chit fund company Rose Valley Group, on remand for interrogation.
The CB’s Economic Offences Wing (EOW) had arrested Bhoumik from Moyna in Bengal’s East Medinipur district on Monday. He was arrested in connection with a multi-crore chit fund scam that CBI busted.
He was produced in the OPID (Odisha Protection of Interests of Depositors) court in Balasore on Tuesday.
According to the EOW, Bhoumik had been absconding since 2013.
Earlier on January 16, the CBI had arrested Subhra Kundu, a former actress and wife of Rose Valley Group owner Gautam Kundu from Kolkata. Besides CBI, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) is also investigating the scam.
According to the CBI, the Rose Valley Group has allegedly duped investors in West Bengal, Odisha, Assam, Jharkhand, Punjab, Delhi, Rajasthan, MP, Tripura and Andhra Pradesh of nearly Rs 17,000 crore. Of this, depositors in Odisha alone were cheated of Rs 450 crore.
