New Delhi: Appearing on an Indian television channel, Mehul Choksi’s alleged girlfriend Barbara Jarabica trashed the “wanted” businessman’s claim that he was taken to Dominica after being abducted from Antigua and Barbuda.
According to Barbara’s claims, Choksi aggressively wooed her over the past year, lavished with presents of diamond bracelets and rings that turned out to be fake. He also offered to help her start an online diamond trading business.
As the original pitch did not work, a real estate project was also put forward. Barbara rejected the charge levelled by Choksi’s wife Priti that she spied or connived with Indian sleuths to abduct him and whisk him out of Antigua on May 23.
“I had hundreds of opportunities driving alone with him on the island and walking with him. If I wanted to abduct him, why would I do it at my home at busy daytime hours when everyone was there on the street, walking,” she told the television channel.
Choksi’s “abduction” claim was also rubbished by the captain of ‘Calliope of Arne’, the yacht on which the Punjab National Bank scam accused was transported to Dominica. According to him, he had sailed from Antigua at 10 am on May 23 after the customs check and did not come to Dominica clandestinely.
