Rayagada: Cholera infection, which had subsided in Kasipur block of Odisha’s Rayagada district, has raised its head again with 15 more persons admitted to hospital reportedly due to the disease.
According to official sources, 10 persons of Dengaguda village under Dudukabahal panchayat of the block complained of dysentery and vomiting a few days back. They are undergoing treatment in primary health centre at Tikiri. Their condition was stated to be stable.
Following this, the officials of public health department took the sample of water from the only borewell used by the villagers of Dengaguda for laboratory test. The test report confirmed the presence of cholera bacteria in the water. The department has advised the villagers not to consume the water of the borewell.
During the visit of media persons to Dengaguda, the villagers told them that the panchayat office was supplying drinking water to the village through a tanker after the outbreak of cholera in the block. As the tanker has stopped coming, they were forced to use the borewell water.
The villagers pointed out that the water sources surrounding the village might have been infected after the torrential rain for several days recently.
Similarly, five persons of Paralajar village under Adajar panchayat have been admitted in community health centre (CHC) at Kasipur after they complained of dysentery and vomiting.
It may be noted that 10 persons have succumbed to cholera and more than 400 infected after the disease spread in Kasipur block last month.
