New Delhi: From ‘Cholle Bhature’ to a special trophy cake, a lavish Indian breakfast buffet awaited Rohit Sharma and men as at the ITC Maurya Hotel in Chanakyapuri here when they returned to New Delhi as the T20 World Cup 2024 champions.
With fans thronging around and celebrations taking over, coach Rahul Dravid and players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Hardik Pandya cut the special cake as they reached the hotel on Wednesday morning. The venue was decked up with various tri-coloured decorative items and welcome drinks in shades of orange, white and green were kept ready for the winning squad.
Speaking about the special cake to ANI, executive chef at the ITC, Shivneet Paheja, said the cake was baked overnight and it was ready by 5.30 am. The specially crafted cake was adorned in the hues of the jersey of Indian cricket team and had a replica of the World Cup trophy atop. “The trophy looks like the real one. But, it has been made of chocolate,” the chef said, adding they had conceptualised the cake the day team India won the championship.
For the breakfast spread, the Men in Blue were offered various Indian dishes that most of them preferred. “We prepared various Indian dishes, which the players often talk about in their interviews. We prepared Cholle Bhature and various millet recipes for breakfast. We have also crafted culinary treats and special chocolates for the players, which have been kept inside their private rooms in the hotel,” the chef added.
