Ambala: A statue of Jesus Christ was vandalised at a Church here in Haryana on Sunday afternoon. Police are analysing CCTV footage but haven’t yet been able to identify the criminals.
“Two men jumped the boundary wall at 12:30 pm and vandalised a Jesus Christ’s statue at around 1:40 pm. They haven’t been identified yet, police teams have been assigned to investigate it. A complaint is being lodged and action will be taken accordingly,” Naresh, Station House Officer of Sadar police station was quoted as saying by NDTV.
“Two suspects entered the Church property at about 12.30 am after the Christmas prayers. Due to lockdown, the Church was closed on time as we obeyed the government restrictions. The Christmas prayers were completed by 9.30 pm. By 10 pm people had gone out and by 10.30 pm, the entire Church, including the gate was closed,” Father Patras Mundu of Holy Redeemer Church, Redemptorists, was quoted as saying by Time Of India.
The incident comes a day after Christmas celebrations at a school in Pataudi, Haryana were disrupted with slogans of ‘Jai Shri Ram.’
