Bhubaneswar: A day after the state government directed district collectors and municipal commissioners to put curbs on congregations and gatherings, the BMC on Thursday announced that Christmas will be celebrated by following COVID guidelines in the capital city.
Commissioner of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) Sanjay Singh told the media that considering the prevalent COVID situation in the city, the municipal corporation has decided to impose necessary restrictions for celebration of Christmas.
Stating that the details of the guidelines will be released after taking the spread of the pandemic into account, Singh said basic norms like wearing masks and maintaining social distance will be enforced during celebration.
He further said six places in Bhubaneswar have been declared as micro containment zones.
It may be noted that following a high-level meeting to chalk out strategies to prevent spread of Omicron variant of COVID-19 on Wednesday, Director, Public Health, Niranjan Mishra said collectors and municipal commissioners have been directed to put curbs on congregations/large gatherings and intensify surveillance.
