Bhubaneswar: People in the city bid adieu to Goddess Durga with immersion of idols amid much fanfare on Sunday.
The idols of different puja committees congregated at Saheed Nagar puja pandal and were taken in a massive procession to Raj Mahal Square via Ram Mandir and Master Canteer Square. From Raj Mahal Square, the respective committees will take a diversion towards Kuakhai or Daya rivers for immersion.
The idols will be immersed in temporary ponds constructed on the banks of Kuakhai, Daya and Bhargavi rivers to check water pollution.
Elaborate security arrangements were put in place with deployment of 30 platoons of police forces in the city.
This year, 173 pandals were erected in Bhubaneswar and 168 in Cuttack.
