Berhampur: The city high school playground in the heart of Berhampur is set to get a makeover. The playground will soon get a state-of-the-art indoor game hall.
To be built on one and a half acres land, the indoor stadium will have facilities for all kinds of indoor games. Sources said, DPR has been prepared and tenders will be invited for the hall but cost estimate, to be funded by the state government, has not yet been finalised.
A variety of sports like basketball, badminton, table tennis and gymnastics will be a part of the hall.
The playground, which has been lying in a state of neglect since 2010, was being used for dumping waste and the area resembled an artificial lake during monsoon season, said locals.
The playground had remained a centre of politics with leaders assuring to renovate and develop it, but promises remained unfulfilled once the elections were over, said locals.
For the new indoor hall, the state government has already constructed a wall around the site at a cost of Rs 2.5 lakh.
