New Delhi: Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) on Monday announced it will launch a website to raise public contributions for a legal aid fund for the support of those who are facing ‘wrongful legal action’ after participating in recent NEET paper leak protests at Jantar Mantar and other cities.
The website will track legal action taken against protesters and connect them to lawyers, senior advocate and Rajya Sabha MP Kabil Sibal said.
In a big boost for the CJP movement, Sibal pledged Rs 1 crore as legal aid for the website, and urged lawyers across India to contribute to the fund, PTI reported.
Even a contribution of Re 1 would be welcome, he said while addressing a joint press conference with CJP spokesperson Saurav Das.
“They will create a website where lawyers willing to provide legal assistance can register their names, location and the kind of help they can offer. I will contribute Rs 1 crore, and urge lawyers across India and others to also contribute to this fund so that wherever the law is misused and false cases are filed against peaceful protesters, we will stand with them. Our lawyers will support them across India,” Sibal said.
Earlier in the day, CJP accused the Central government of a breach of agreement it had reached on Saturday on the basis of which the 47-day agitation was called off. It warned of resuming the protest if FIRs registered against all, student protesters were not withdrawn immediately, as promised.
