Trivandrum: Odisha were in complete control midway through the second day of their CK Nayudu Trophy match against Hyderabad on Wednesday.
Having posted 345 in their first innings, Odisha had Hyderabad tottering at 124 for 6 at St Xavier’s KCA cricket ground. But then HK Simha’s unbeaten century and his unconquered seventh-wicket partnership with G Anikethreddy (52 batting) frustrated the Odisha bowlers as Hyderabad reached 226 for 6 at stumps today.
Left-arm spinner Saurabh Kanojia, the hero of Odisha’s victory in the previous match against MP, bagged three wickets and off-spinner Kartik Biswal picked up two scalps to raise visions of a huge first-innings lead. The spin duo, however, was denied any further success by Simha and Anikethreddy.
The Odisha batsmen put up a solid display on Day 1 with five of the top six batters scoring in excess of 40.
Aashirwad Swain (69) and Gaurav Choudhary (45) led the way with a 75-run opening stand. Debasish Samantray then scored 68, while Biswal and Anil Parida chipped in with useful contributions of 49 and 46, respectively.
Scores: Odisha 345. Hyderabad 226/6.
