Thiruvananthapuram: Tarani Sa’s 5-wicket haul helped Odisha outplay Hyderabad by 133 runs in their CK Nayudu Trophy clash at St Xavier’s KCA cricket ground on Friday.
It was Odisha’s second straight win in the under-25 tournament after losing the opener to Jharkhand by an innings, but that wasn’t enough for them to qualify for the knockout round.
Madhya Pradesh, who lost to Odisha by 6 wickets, advanced from Elite Group C on better run rate. Odisha had the same number of points but finished third.
Chasing 300 for victory, Hyderabad resumed at 65 for 2 on the final day. But Tarani dealt Hyderabad a body blow early in the day when he castled first-innings centurion HK Simha for 17.
The 25-year-old pacer struck twice more in quick succession to reduce Hyderabad to 100 for 6. The tailenders put up some resistance before Tarani ended the Hyderabad innings to finish with 5/37.
Left-arm spinner Saurabh Kanojia bagged 2 wickets, while Tapas Das, Sunil Roul and Krishna Palai picked up one apiece.
Scores: Odisha 345 and 186. Hyderabad 232 and 167.
