Bhadrak: Two persons were seriously injured after a group clash broke out on the premises of district headquarters hospital in Odisha’s Bhadark late on Tuesday.
According to sources, the clash was the fallout of a land dispute, involving Subhakanta Pati, owner of a hotel.
Sources further said that some miscreants had issued threats to Pati and even plotted to murder him. As per the plan, they assaulted him around 11 pm. This led to a violent clash between the assailants and Pati’s supporters, leaving two grievously injured.
The situation worsened as both groups engaged in a violent confrontation again on the premises of hospital, where the victims were admitted. As the situation escalated, police arrived at the spot and resorted to a mild lathi charge.
“The group clash erupted due to a dispute over a piece of land I had purchased in Charampa area. I had filed a complaint about this matter at Bhadrak Town police station. Unfortunately, no action was taken,” Pati, while attributing the clash to police inaction.
Bhadrak City DSP Anshuman Dwivedi said five platoons of police forces have been deployed on the hospital premises to prevent any untoward incident. “We have also sought the assistance of nearby police stations to ensure the situation remains under control,” he added.
Sources added police have detained five persons from either group in connection with the incident.
