Class 9 Boy Lynched Over Alleged Goat Theft In Odisha’s Mayurbhanj, 12 Held



Baripada: A Class IX boy was allegedly beaten to death by an angry mob on suspicion of theft after trial by a Kangaroo Court at a village in Tiring area of Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district

The incident took place at Indakoli village under the jurisdiction of Tiring police station in the district. The deceased was identified as Sambit Bindhani, aged around 15 years, of Bhutukabadi village under Rairangpur Rural police station.

As many as 12 people from the area have been taken into custody by the police after a video of the brutal assault appeared on social media

said Sambit and his friend had gone to a nearby dam for an outing when the brutal incident took place. A mob of villagers allegedly thrashed them over alleged goat theft. The mob reportedly set the victims’ bike ablaze.

Locals said Sambit was staying at his uncle’s house in Basingi village under Bahalda police station and studying in Class IX at Basingi Government High School. Sambit and his friend were beaten up by locals in Indakoli village on Monday afternoon over alleged goat theft after holding a kangaroo court.

On being informed, a police team rushed to the site and rescued the victims and initially took them to nearby hospital, later shifting them to Rairangpur Hospital where Sambit succumbed to his injuries. Condition of the other youth is stated to be critical and has been transferred to PRM M

Based on a complaint filed by victim’s father, police registered a case and arrested 12 persons so far. More arrests are expected as the investigation continues.
