Rayagada: A six-year-old student died after he was allegedly attacked by a senior boy at a residential school in Kolnara area of Odisha’s Rayagada district, reports said on Tuesday.
The deceased, a student of Class I, had suffered grievous injuries after he was allegedly assaulted by a Class VI student of the same Ashram school located at Jhoradi.
The injured student was first taken to the local community health centre and then admitted to the district headquarters hospital at Rayagada, sources said, adding that the boy was later shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital at Berhampur on the advice of doctors as his condition deteriorated.
The child, who hailed from Jhiliguda village, succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment there.
While the family members of the deceased boy alleged negligence on the part of the schoolteachers, the Head Master refuted the charge and said that the truth would come to the fore after investigation.
District Welfare Officer (DWO) Ashok Satpathy said an investigation into the incident is in progress and appropriate action would be taken if anyone is found guilty in the findings.
