Paralakhemundi: A girl student of Class-1 was allegedly locked up in the classroom for around four hours at a school in a village in Gosani block of Odisha’s Gajapati district. She was later rescued.
The incident was reported from Badadeula village under Gosani block of the district on Wednesday after the girl failed to return home after school, sources said on Thursday.
The family members of the girl launched a frantic search all over the village. She was finally found sleeping inside the classroom after long search in the school building.
The rooms were apparently not properly checked before locking up the school, locals said.
Her family members said that the BDO had sent a vehicle to take her to hospital for a medical check-up. She was in good shape.
Headmaster of the school reportedly expressed regret over the incident and said that the peon was unable to notice the girl as she slept on the last bench in the classroom after the school. He said utmost care will be taken in future to prevent recurrence of such incidents.
