Rayagada: A Class V girl student died after the gate of a government school fell on her in Odisha’s Rayagada district on Friday.
The deceased girl student has been identified as Ahuti Sabar.
According to sources, the mishap took place at the Upper Primary School at Birikot in Padmapur block when the students were moving outside the building during recess.
The girl was going out when the pillar supporting the iron gate collapsed and the structure fell on her. She sustained critical injuries and was rushed to the government hospital at Padmapur by 108 Ambulance service and later shifted to sub-divisional hospital at Gunupur, where she succumbed to the injuries during treatment.
Angry over the incident, villagers and parents demanded a thorough investigation into the circumstances that led to the mishap. They said the district administration should immediately order a probe and take action against those responsible.
