Sundargarh: A Class VIII student, who had sustained serious burn injuries, succumbed while undergoing treatment at Rourkela Government Hospital (RGH), headmistress of Govt High School at Dengula in Odisha’s Sundargarh district informed on Monday.
The deceased has been identified as Gelet Hanhaga of Kapatamunda panchayat.
The incident took place on March 6 when piping hot dal fell on him while helping the cook at the hostel kitchen. The 13-year-old was rushed to the government health centre at Koida and shifted to RGH a day later when his condition deteriorated. He, however, breathed his last around 6 pm on Sunday, sources said.
It is being alleged that negligence on the part of the school authorities led to the accident.
