Sambalpur: Eight Class X students of a private residential school in Majhipali area of Odisha Sambalpur district were suspended for allegedly stripping naked and thrashing a hostel inmate.
Among the eight suspended students, two had reportedly assaulted him while six others were present on the spot.
“Two students were directly involved in the assault incident and six others were present on the spot. We have suspended them all and asked their parents to take them back home,” said Manoranjan Pati, principal of the school.
According to the complaint lodged by the boy’s parents with the school authorities, the eight boys, who are his classmates, called the victim to a room in the hostel around 7.30 pm on April 17. They tied up his hands and legs, stripped him naked, thrashed him with footwear and sexually assaulted him inside the locked room of the hostel for a few hours.
On April 19, the victim narrated the horrifying incident to his parents over phone. The parents also expressed shock at the attempts by the institution to hush up the incident.
They have also filed a written complaint with the Secretary of the School and Mass Education Department of the Odisha Government through e-mail.
While the victim has returned home, the school authorities are also likely to take action against the warden, sources added.
