Puri: The district administration on Saturday began cleaning the Grand Road (Bada Danda) in Puri town under the ‘Mo Dhama Mo Garba’ programme.
About 1500 people, comprising the residents of the town, tourists, members of local NGOs, local traders and students, participated in the programme.
The programme began simultaneously at five places from the Jagannath Temple to Marichikot Chhak, from Marichikot Chhak to Market Chhak, from Market Chhak to the district headquarters hospital, from district headquarters hospital to Badasankha and from Badasankha up to Gundicha Temple.
To keep the Grand Road as well as the entire town area clean, the district administration has launched the novel programme which will be taken up once a week on Saturday.
During the two-hour programme (from 6.30 am to 8.30 am), there will be a number of cultural programmes like debate, Rangoli, quiz and drawing competitions and the winners will be awarded at a function near Gundicha Temple.
Participants willing to take part in these completions will have to register their name online.
