Rourkela: Passengers and staff of a Mo Bus had a narrow escape after the vehicle caught fire in at the steel city of Rourkela in Odisha on Saturday.
No injury to anyone was reported due to the incident. Sources said the bus was proceeding to from Rourkela to Vedvyas when fire suddenly erupted in the vehicle near TCI Chhak, prompting the driver to stop immediately.
A major tragedy was averted as all passengers travelling in the vehicle as well as the bus staff immediately got down as a precautionary move. Initially smoke was seen emanating from the driver’s cabin and then the fire engulfed the vehicle.
However, all those on board including passengers and bus staff had a close shave, sources said, adding that all of they are safe and no one was hurt in the incident.
Around 10 passengers were on board the Mo Bus when the incident took place.
On being informed, fire service personnel rushed to the site and doused the flames. However, the bus was virtually reduced to ashed in the incident.
While the exact cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained, some technical snag was suspected to have led to the blaze.
It may be noted here that the Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT) had launched the Mo Bus services in Rourkela city in January this year ahead of the FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup 2023.
