Bhubaneswar: Passengers of Kolkata-Radhikapur Express had a narrow escape after the train collided with a truck rushing through a crossing at Farakka in Murshidabad district of West Bengal on Sunday night.
According to reports, around 15 passengers were injured in the incident. One of the compartments of the train also caught fire due to the collision, but two fire-tenders soon reached the spot and doused the flames.
Though the loco-pilot of the train failed to avoid the collision, he could reduce the severity of the accident by applying the emergency brake due to his alertness. The truck was severely damaged and so were the railway tracks under the impact of the collision, leading to brief disruption of train traffic on the route. Some trains had to be cancelled while others were diverted.
Senior railways and Railway Protection (RPF) rushed to the sport early on Monday, which also saw train services being restored. Resumption of services through the up line may take some more time, the reports added
Alternate transport arrangements were also made for those travelling by the affected Radhikapur Express.
