Close shave: No one injured in Rourkela Steel Plant fire

Rourkela: A major fire broke out in the Steel Melting Shop (SMS-II) at
Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) here in Odisha on Sunday.

According to RSP sources, no casualty or injury was reported in the incident.

The incident took place when a ladle containing hot liquid metal
snapped off. Being informed regarding the mishap, three fire tenders
rushed to the spot and doused the flames.

On Saturday, a labourer identified as Sahil Kumar Purti was critically
injured after a ladle containing 150 tonne hot metal snapped and fell
on him in SMS-II on the plant premises. Purti sustained more than 70 burn injuries and was admitted to the ICU of Ispat General Hospital (IGH) here.

Irked over repeated occurrence of such mishaps on the plant premises,
the employees and workers of RSP demanded immediate measures for
ensuring safety and better working conditions for them.
