Close Shave For Truck Driver As Bridge Collapsed In Jharsuguda

Jharsuguda: The driver of a truck had a close shave on Saturday night when a bridge collapsed after the vehicle passed through it in Jharsuguda district.

According to information, the chips-laden truck was heading towards Hemagiri from Lakhanpur when the bridge named Lotus suddenly collapsed. Following which, the vehicle got struck midway over the bridge.

On being informed about the incident, police reached the spot and rescued the driver of the truck by the help of a crane.

Owing to the bridge collapse, vehicular communication between the busy road connecting Hemagiri and Belpahad has been disrupted.

Meanwhile, the locals of the area demanded for construction of a new bridge in the locality for facilitating smooth flow of vehicles on the route.

“The bridge was constructed about 20 years back by Mahanadi Coalfields Limited for transportation of coal. However, no maintenance or repair work has been done on the bridge”, a local resident said, alleging that no official from the district administration has so far visited the spot to take stock of the situation.
