Cuttack: With Ganesh Puja getting closer, a club in Odisha’s Cuttack is in the process of making the city’s tallest idol on its pandal.
The Junior Friends Club at Nuapada in the city is known for celebrating Ganesh Puja on different themes every year. On completion of 27 years of its formation four years back, the club had installed 27 idols of Lord Ganesh on the occasion.
Since the club will celebrate 31 years of its foundation this year, it has come up with the idea of erecting Ganesh idol of 31 feet, said a club member. “We hope that it will be the tallest idol in the city,” he added.
The club has engaged 5 artists to prepare the massive idol on the pandal as such a huge structure cannot be transported easily. Besides the artists, several artisans are engaged in making the idol.
They have procured 70 quintal of clay besides bamboos, straw and other materials needed for making the idol. They have been working on the idol for the last one month. Though the work has been hampered due to rain, they are optimistic of completing the idol much before the Ganesh Puja on September 19.
Considering the problem in transportation of the idol, the club would perform its immersion on the pandal itself.
