Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday announced a special package for the people of Puri, the worst-affected coastal district, which was ravaged by the extremely severe cyclonic storm Fani on May 3.
Mentioned below is the package announced by the Chief Minister during his visit to Puri in the afternoon.
—Each family will be provided 2.5 litres of kerosene free of cost in every 10 days till electricity is restored to the district.
—Free distribution of 10 lakh candles in the affected areas.
—Each family will be provided 50 kg of rice regardless of whether it has a ration card or not.
—Free distribution of sanitary napkins for two months.
Referring to power supply to Puri district, the Chief Minister said the three power grids supplying power to the district were completely damaged by the cyclonic storm. Of the three damaged grids, one was restored on Thursday. “Power supply will be restored to Puri, Konark and Nimapada towns tonight. About 10,000 personnel are working round-the-clock for restoration of power. Efforts are on to restore power to other areas of the district at the earliest possible,” he added.
