Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Saturday sanctioned Rs 1 crore medical assistance for treatment of Kandhamal conjoined twins currently admitted to AIIMS, New Delhi.
The babies, Honey and Singh, accompanied by their parents reached New Delhi on July 13 for a separation surgery.
The amount will be given to the director of AIIMS, New Delhi, as per the norms of the CM Relief Fund. The monetary assistance was sanctioned as per the advice of the doctors treating them, sources in Chief Minister office said.
Earlier last month, the Kandhamal district administration had provided an assistance of Rs 1 lakh to the family. The district patients’ welfare committee had given Rs 25, 000 for their treatment.
The AIIMS has formed a 30-member team for pre-surgery assessment of the twins.
The twins, hailing from Milupada village in Kandhamal district, were born at Phiringia public health centre on April 9, 2015. Their parents got them admitted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack shortly after their birth but could not continue with the treatment owing to financial constraint.
