Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik announced Rs 12 lakh cash award for Odia para-athlete Jayanti Behera while felicitating her at the secretariat here on Thursday following her two-medal haul at the recently-concluded World Para Athletics Junior Championships in Switzerland.
Jayanti struck gold for India in the 400mts clocking 1:01 minutes. She also won a silver in the 200mts during the four-day event, which concluded on August 6.
The 17-year-old arrived to a rousing welcome at the state capital the previous day.
Youth Services Minister Chandra Sarathi Behera was also present at the felicitation ceremony.
Jayanti will again be felicitated on August 29 on the occasion of National Sports Day for bringing laurels to the state, official sources said.
