Sambalpur: Chief minister Naveen Patnaik unveiled the 2nd planetarium of the state,’Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Planetarium’ at Burla in Sambalpur district on Friday.
The state-owned Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (Idco) constructed the planetarium for an estimated Rs 5.6 crore. It will hold between 170 and 181 people, official sources said.
During his one-day visit to the district, the chief minister also inaugurated a new science park at Burla, besides attending an event at Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Science and Research (VIMSAR).
Later, Naveen also flagged off 10 new city buses.
Earlier in the day, police took 47 BJP and Congress leaders into preventive custody to avert any untoward incident. Those detained included ex-MLA Jaynarayan Mishra. Protesting the preventive arrest, BJP leaders, including women activists, took out a rally in the town.
As many as 32 platoons of police force were deployed in the town during the chief minister’s visit.
