Vijayawada: A day before the ‘Chalo Secretariat’ protest, state Congress president YS Sharmila Reddy, who is the sister of YSRCP leader and Andhra Pradesh chief minister Jagan Mohan Reddy, spent the night in her party office at Vijayawada on Wednesday to avoid being put under house arrest.
A video in which she can be seen lying on a mattress on the floor of the party’s Vijayawada office has gone viral.
The Congress has called the protest against the government’s failure to address the problems being faced by unemployed youth and students in the last 5 years.
Later taking to her X account, the newly-elected Andhra Congress State president also questioned the government’s attempt to to house-arrest her while emphasising the right to protest in a democracy and expressing her frustration at having to evade the police. “Is it not shameful that as a woman I have been forced to evade the police and spend the night in the Congress Party office to avoid house arrest?” she wrote.
