Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Friday launched ‘Green Odisha’, a mega plantation drive by Biju Yuva Bahini at Kalinga Stadium here.
Stating that the campaign aims at planting 30 lakh saplings at different parts of the state to boost afforestation, the Chief Minister said, “The state government has recently launched the Green Mahanadi Mission with its commitment towards environmental protection.”
Under the Green Mahanadi Mission, the government has set a target to plant more than 2 crore saplings on either side of Mahanadi river basin in different districts of the state. Similarly, a total of 5 crore saplings will be planted across the state under different programmes, the CM added.
Welcoming the campaign of Biju Yuva Bahini, formed by the government for creating employment opportunities for youths, Naveen encouraged its members by saying that he is ready to guide them for carrying out various development activities for the people.
He called upon the members to raise public awareness on environment protection, plastic pollution and other social activities of the government.
