Bhubaneswar: As the entire country rang in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 76th birthday on Thursday, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi led the celebrations in the state.
The historic Mukteswar Temple complex radiated in a golden glow in the evening as thousands gathered to light over 11,000 Aasirbadara Deepa (Lamps of Blessing), accompanied by traditional chants, sound of conch shells and devotional music by renowned Odia singers
Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida, Revenue Minister Suresh Pujari, Ekamra MLA Babu Singh and Brahmagiri MLA Upasana Mohapatra were also present to mark the high point of statewide ‘Seva Sankalp Abhiyan-2026.’
“On the occasion of honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi Ji’s 76th birthday, I extend my heartfelt congratulations and warm wishes. The flames of these sacred lamps symbolise the heartfelt blessings of 4.5 crore people of Odisha. India will surely become a Vishwaguru, and we will continue our relentless efforts to fulfil Modi Ji’s vision,” Majhi said.

The CM also interacted with the youth gathered at the venue, praising their dedication and enthusiasm.
Across the 30 districts of Odisha, over 1 crore earthen lamps were illuminated simultaneously under the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan-2026.
Families marked the day by lighting lamps at their homes.
Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and beneficiaries of Subhadra Yojana led active participation of people in different districts.
Collective lamp-lighting events and traditional Jhoti Chita (rangoli) decorations were organised across temples, gram panchayats, blocks and district headquarters where local representatives and the public turned up in large numbers.
