Bhubaneswar: As fresh floods threaten to affect lakhs of people in Odisha, the state government is pulling out all stops to adopt relief and rescue measures.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi will visit flood-affected areas in Bhadrak and Jajpur districts on Monday to assess the ground situation.
During his on-the-spot inspection, CM Majhi is expected to interact with affected families, review functioning of relief camps, and take stock of rescue and restoration efforts being carried out by district administrations, ODRAF, NDRF and other agencies.
A low-pressure system over northwest Bay of Bengal has brought heavy rainfall to northern Odisha. The India Meteorological Department has issued Red warnings for Bhadrak and Jajpur. Significant waterlogging is expected in several low-lying areas, forcing displacement of people.
Earlier in the day, the state government’s General Administration and Public Grievance Department issued an order deputing three IAS officers to supervise relief and restoration work in Bhadrak, Baleshwar and Jajpur.
On Saturday, Chief Secretary Anu Garg chaired a high-level review meeting, where detailed instructions were issued for intensified monitoring and response in the worst-affected districts.
