The farmers should avail all benefits from different welfare schemes meant for them, said Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik while participating in an ‘Akhi Muthi Anukula’ ceremony on the occasion of Akshaya Tritiya in Angul on Wednesday.

Stating that farmers play a pivotal role in state’s development, the Chief Minister said, “Special emphasis is being given to ensure supply of adequate water, fertiliser and for providing hassle-free loans to the farming community.”

On the occasion, he inaugurated 11 public welfare projects in the district.

Apprehending disturbances, as many as 40 BJP activists of Handapa and Kishore Nagar areas of the district were taken into preventive custody ahead of the Chief Minister’s visit.

Earlier in the day, Naveen had wished people of Odisha on Akshaya Tritiya and prayed for the well being of farmers.

The other political parties were not very far behind.

In a bid to woo the farmers, Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee chief Prasad Harichandan took part in ‘Akhi Muthi Anukula’ ceremony at Kusumati in Khurda district while BJP state president Basanta Panda participated in a similar ceremony at Banki in Cuttack district.
