Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Friday wrote to Prime
Minister Narendra Modi to expedite establishment of National National
Institute of Energy and Innovation in Odisha.
Requesting the PM to refer his letters written to him earlier on
February 5, 2016, August 23, 2016 and May 16, 2017, the Chief Minister
stated in the letter that establishment of the institute will promote
cutting edge research and development activities in the field of
renewable energy.
“Odisha government had committed to provide the necessary
infrastructure support for this prestigious in the state. The
government has already allocated 73.68 acres of land near IIT,
Bhubaneswar for the institute. Further, 1 acre of land has been
identified in Bhubaneswar for the city office of the institute”, the
CM said in his letter.
Construction of the institute near IIT, Bhubaneswar has not yet been
taken up despite grant of advance possession of the required land. In
the meantime, the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy has issued an
order dated November 10, 2017 to close down the Regional Office at
Bhubaneswar with immediate effect. Closure of the Regional Office may
hamper the progress of establishment of the National Institute of
New Energy and Innovation at Bhubaneswar. I would therefore, request
you to kindly intervene in the matter and issue instructions to
commence construction of the institute at the earliest, Naveen added.
